Farm Away is the result of the love and vision instilled from a lifetime of agriculture and country living. Brought to life by two sisters – Tracy and Taralea – Farm Away brings together a families’ dream to share a lifestyle that is rooted in the peacefulness and simplicity that rural living offers.
Tracy Wood
Tracy has always been a farm girl! She would describe herself as a mom, mentor, agvocate, dreamer, lover of learning, prairie girl, and entrepreneur. Tracy grew up living the country life, riding horses, showing beef cattle in 4-H and enjoying the everyday life of the farm. Horses, cattle and anything farm were her loves! From a young age she was naturally drawn to people and them to her. She was the helping friend, mediator or the shoulder to cry on. As she grew older she considered professions in clinical psychology and teaching but in the end she chose Agriculture. It was a part of her DNA!
Marriage, a farm and children came along as the years progressed and Tracy still felt there was more for her to give in her life. She still felt that pull to helping/teaching others. It was then she and her husband opened their home to foster children and it was a career that proved to be inspiring and life changing. Here she was challenged to support and guide, something she has always envisioned for herself. The farm proved to be an amazing space for the youth to grow and learn and seeing them blossom in the environment ignited a spark in this dreamer! She travelled away to gain her Equine Assisted Learning Certification in 2014 and continued to look at ways the farm could be incorporated into learning and growth for individuals of all ages. Now today, many years later Farm Away will bring to life her dreams! It will be a space that will utilize all of her passions. Animals – Agriculture – People.
Tracy looks forward to sharing the farm with visitors, helping them learn more about the animals and how food gets to their tables along with helping them grow as individuals while experiencing the quiet moments of life in the country.
Taralea Simpson
For Taralea, agriculture and family go hand in hand in everything she does. Many would describe her as a confident builder, a leader, a do’er. Taralea fills many roles – mother, a beef producer, an agrologist, a dreamer. She embarked on her agriculture journey from the day she was born, living on a mixed farm in Manitoba. The travel bug hit during University when she worked on a cattle station in Australia for 6 months learning how others live and produce food. And Taralea continues to have ties to her Australian ‘family’ through various trips she has taken and hosted.
Twenty five years of her life have been spent helping farmers grow food, while raising her daughter Claire and running a 50 head cow/calf operation. Today, she and husband Gerry still raise those cattle and Claire avidly shows cattle while preparing to go away for University.
Taralea believes now is the time for change. Her mission is to connect with others, to help bring the farm life and agriculture to families wanting to learn and see where their food comes from… and for families wanting a quiet place to simply get away and be together. Taralea envisions visiting with you over a cup of coffee or sitting on the porch enjoying the sounds of the country.
